The Core Numerical Reasoning Assessment (CNRA) measures how individuals interpret, analyze, and reason with quantitative and data-based information.
The assessment evaluates skills that are essential for data-driven decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical thinking in many professional contexts.
The CNRA combines multiple types of numerical reasoning tasks into a concise, adaptive assessment that typically takes 12–15 minutes to complete.
Key features
Adaptive design: The CNRA uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), where each response influences the difficulty of subsequent questions. This allows the assessment to efficiently estimate ability by selecting the most informative questions for each individual while maintaining a shorter testing experience.
Validity and reliability: The CNRA is calibrated using a 1-Parameter Logistic (1PL) Item Response Theory (IRT) model, enabling accurate and interpretable measurement across a wide range of ability levels. Large-scale validation and calibration studies are ongoing to further strengthen the assessment's psychometric performance.
Fairness: Assessment items undergo fairness and bias reviews, including screening for Differential Item Functioning (DIF). The CNRA is designed using clear, neutral language and is regularly evaluated to support fair and equitable outcomes across diverse groups.
Continuous improvement
The CNRA is continuously refined through ongoing research, expanded item banks, larger validation datasets, and continuous fairness reviews. Planned enhancements include additional validation studies and further integration into the Core Reasoning Suite to provide a more comprehensive view of cognitive ability.
