Set up demographic questions

Choose which demographic questions participants answer after an assessment, which ones are required, and what answer options they see.

Overview

Demographic questions are a short set of background questions participants can answer once they finish an assessment.

From Settings > Assessments, you decide which questions appear, which ones participants must answer, which answer options are on offer, and whether to add questions of your own.

These settings apply across your entire account.

Key benefits

  • Ask only what you need by hiding questions that aren't relevant to your organization

  • Make the essentials required so the data you rely on actually comes back

  • Add your own questions with free text or single select answers

Turn on demographic questions

Participants only see demographic questions when the account-level toggle is on.

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Assessments.

  3. Turn on Enable additional questions after assessment.

Note: This toggle controls whether the questions appear at all. Everything below only affects participants once it's switched on.

Choose which questions participants see

  1. On the Assessments page, find Demographic questions.

  2. Click Edit.

3. Use the Visible toggle to show or hide each question.

4. Use the Required toggle for the questions participants must answer.

Your account starts with eleven built-in questions:

Note: Built-in questions can't be deleted. Turn Visible off to take one out of the questionnaire.

Manage answer options

Every single select question ships with a default list of answers, and you can shape that list to fit your organization.

  1. Open Demographic questions and click the arrow at the end of a question row.

  2. Turn on Hide next to any option you don't want participants to see.

  3. To add your own, type it into the New option label field and click Add option.

Note: Country, State, and Company have no option list. Country and State use built-in location lists, and Company is a free text field.

Add your own question

  1. Open Demographic questions and click Add question.

2. Enter a Question label.

3. Choose an Answer type — Free text or Single select.

4. Turn on Required if participants must answer it.

5. For single select, enter your first answer in Option 1, then click Add option for each additional answer.

6. Click Save.

Note: Toggle changes to visibility, required status, and hidden options apply as soon as you make them. Only a new question needs to be saved with the Save button.

FAQs

Can participants skip these questions?

Yes, unless you've marked a question as required. Questions left optional can be skipped, and participants continue straight to their results.

Can I delete a built-in question?

No. Turn its Visible toggle off instead, and participants won't see it.

Where do the answers show up?

On the participant's profile. Open the user, click Full profile, and go to the User tab, where you can also edit their demographic details.

Do these settings apply to everyone?

Yes. Demographic question settings apply across your account, not per campaign.

Participants aren't seeing the questions. What's wrong?

Check that Enable additional questions after assessment is turned on in Settings > Assessments, and that the questions you expect have Visible turned on.
